Aspire Nautilus BVC Coils: Everything You Need to Know

Four stainless steel BVC replacement coil heads with cotton wicking ports in front of a mouth-to-lung vape tank on a dark studio surface

The Aspire Nautilus has been a vaping staple for over a decade, and there's a good reason for that: it's a reliable, well-built MTL (mouth-to-lung) tank that delivers clean flavor with minimal fuss. If you're using a Nautilus, keeping fresh coils on hand is the single biggest thing you can do for consistent performance. The good news is that one coil family, the Aspire Nautilus BVC replacement head, fits the whole series, and we stock all eight resistances in 5-packs.

What coils fit the Nautilus?

The Nautilus line uses Bottom Vertical Coil (BVC) heads, built with organic cotton wicking for cleaner flavor and longer life than the older BDC heads. According to the coil listing, one BVC head fits the Nautilus original, Mini, 2, 2S, 3, GT and GT Mini, plus a long list of other Aspire hardware that borrowed the format: the Nautilus AIO (0.7 ohm head excepted), BOXX, Mulus, Zelos 3, Plato, Triton Mini, the Nautilus Prime and Prime X pods, and even the Cthulhu 520 RBA.

One correction to a common assumption: the Aspire K1 and CE5-S clearomizers take their own K1 / CE5-S BVC head, which we also carry. Buy the one that names your tank.

Resistance options

The Nautilus BVC family has grown well beyond the original two heads. Here's what we stock, and what each is for. Whichever you pick, run it inside the wattage range printed on the coil.

Head Draw style Notes
1.8 Ω and 1.6 Ω Classic tight MTL The originals. Designed for low power, around 10–14 W; not sub-ohm, so don't push them.
1.8 Ω Salt Nic Optimized Tight MTL Tuned for nicotine-salt e-liquid at low power
1.0 Ω Mesh Slightly looser MTL Mesh heats evenly for fuller flavor
0.7 Ω and 2S Mesh 0.7 Ω Restricted, warmer draw Not compatible with the Nautilus AIO
0.4 Ω and 0.3 Ω Mesh Sub-ohm Needs a tank with open airflow and a mod that can supply the power

Tips for coil longevity

  • Always prime a new coil: drip e-liquid directly on the cotton before filling and let it sit 5 minutes before vaping
  • Start at the lower end of the printed wattage range and work up
  • Avoid sweetener-heavy e-liquids, which caramelise and clog coils faster
  • Replace the coil when you notice flavor degradation or reduced vapor production, typically every one to two weeks

For a 50/50 or 60/40 VG/PG e-liquid that wicks cleanly in an MTL tank, our DeKang and SmokEjuice premium natural e-liquid ranges are what most of our Nautilus customers run.

Frequently asked questions

Which Aspire tanks use Nautilus BVC coils?

Per the coil listing: Nautilus original, Mini, 2, 2S, 3, GT and GT Mini; the Nautilus AIO (except the 0.7 ohm head); the BOXX, Mulus, Zelos 3, Plato and Triton Mini; the Nautilus Prime and Prime X pods; and the Cthulhu 520 RBA. The K1 and CE5-S use a separate BVC head.

Which resistance should I buy?

For a classic tight mouth-to-lung draw at low power, the 1.6 or 1.8 ohm heads; the 1.8 ohm Salt Nic Optimized head if you vape nicotine salts. The 0.7 and 1.0 ohm mesh heads give a looser, warmer draw. The 0.3 and 0.4 ohm heads are sub-ohm and need a tank and mod built for it.

How long does a Nautilus coil last?

Typically one to two weeks of regular use. Sweetener-heavy e-liquids caramelise on the coil and shorten that; clean tobacco and menthol profiles stretch it.

Why does my new coil taste burnt?

It wasn't primed, or it was fired too hard too soon. Drip e-liquid on the cotton, fill the tank, wait five minutes, and start at the low end of the range printed on the coil.
